Add to My BasketDescription
The 2018 Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS:18) is a study that is part of the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) program. TALIS:18 (https://nces.ed.gov/surveys/talis/) is a cross-sectional survey that is designed to collect information about the teaching workforce, teaching as a profession, and the learning environments of schools. The study will be conducted through questionnaires for teachers and school administrators. Teachers and school administrators in lower secondary schools (Grades 7, 8, and 9) were sampled. Key statistics produced from TALIS:18 include information on teacher and principal background and characteristics, teacher and principal professional development, school leadership and management, teacher appraisal and feedback, teachers’ instructional beliefs and pedagogical practices, school climate and ethos, student characteristics as perceived by the teacher, and teacher efficacy and job satisfaction.
Detailed Methodology
The universe of interest was composed of schools where ISCED Level 2 education (grades 7, 8, and 9) is provided along with the affiliated principals and teachers. The TALIS 2018 U.S. sample was based on a stratified two-stage probability sample design. At the first stage the primary sampling units were individual ISCED Level 2 schools , selected systematically with probability proportional to size from the stratified sampling frame. At the second stage, the secondary sampling units were the in-scope teachers, selected randomly within the sample schools. TALIS minimum standards include a minimum of 200 schools, 3,400 teachers, and 20 teachers per school.
