The National Household Education Surveys Program, 2016 Early Childhood Program Participation (ECPP- NHES:2016) is a study that is part of the National Household Education Surveys (NHES) program; program data are available since 1991 at https://nces.ed.gov/nhes/dataproducts.asp. ECPP-NHES:2016 (https://nces.ed.gov/nhes) is a cross-sectional survey that collects in-depth information on children's participation in formal and informal nonparental care, education programs, reasons for choosing that care arrangement, and characteristics of care arrangements.

Summary of Differences

The public-use file contains all the variables detailed in the user's manual but does not contain certain variables excluded from the file for confidentiality reasons. The restricted-use data files includes the same variables as the public-use file as well as character variables for write-in responses for items including; the language spoken in the home, each family member’s relationship to the sampled child, and the sampled person’s country or territory of birth as well as respondents’ individual ZIP Codes.
