Survey of Doctorate Recipients, Longitudinal Data: 2015-19

Add to My Basket

Description

The Survey of Doctorate Recipients, Longitudinal Data: 2015-19 is the first release of data from the LSDR 2015-25 panel containing a longitudinal subsample of the 2015 SDR, which is designed to provide information about employment changes among the population of U.S.-trained science, engineering, and health (SEH) doctorate holders less than 65 years of age in 2015 over a 10-year period (2015–25).

NCSES is updating their data linkage policy to better meet the data linkage needs of NCSES and external researchers. Currently, NCSES does not support researcher access to direct Personally Identifiable Information (PII). NCSES encourages researchers interested in developing an SAP application that includes linking NCSES restricted data to non-NCSES data sources to contact NCSES at NCSES_Licensing@nsf.gov to assess feasibility and appropriateness.

This dataset is available through the NCSES Secure Data Access Facility (SDAF), a virtual enclave that can only be accessed within the United States.

Detailed Methodology

Sample

A stratified sampling with proportional allocation was implemented. The sample stratification design defined strata by crossing four 2015 survey outcome variables: employment sector, age group, underrepresented minority indicator, and sex. In addition, seven 2015 survey outcome variables are used as implicit stratification variables in selecting the sample.

Method of Data Collection
Survey (self- or interviewer-administered)
Frequency of Data Collection
Every two years
Number of Cases
Approximately 36,400 individuals are included in the dataset.
Number of Variables
231
Linkage Capabilities

The LSDR 2015-19 data can be linked to the full crosssectional SDR data by the survey id, REFID, it can also be linked with other data sources by FIPS state code.

Linkage Variables
  • IPEDS indicator for educational institutions
  • State FIPS code
  • Other (see Linkage Capabilities description)
