SSA Supplemental Security Record (SSR) CPS Extract
Add to My BasketDescription
This file contains Protected Identification Keys (PIK) that link Social Security Administration (SSA) Supplemental Security Record (SSR) to the respondents in the internal Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC) [formerly known as Current Population Survey (CPS) March Supplement] microdata files. The Supplemental Security Record (SSR) is SSA's main file to track who is receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and the monthly benefit amounts payable.
Detailed Methodology
A probability sample is used in selecting housing units.
The Census Bureau sends the Social Security Administration (SSA) annual Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC) updates that consist of all survey respondents SSN (derived from the Person Identification Validation System (PVS)) and individual survey identifiers (i.e., survey IDs). SSA uses the survey IDs to link to public-use data and the SSN to link to their program data. SSA creates research files as output to the linkage to their program data and transfers research files (comprised of SSA program data, SSNs, and survey IDs) to the Census Bureau. After SSA delivers the SSA linked-file to the Census Bureau, the Census Bureau will replace SSNs with PIKs to facilitate matching to survey content and other administrative records.
