Census-Enhanced Health and Retirement Study (HRS) Crosswalk
Add to My BasketDescription
The Census-Enhanced Health and Retirement Study (CenHRS) Crosswalk will serve to link Health and Retirement Study (HRS) datasets to Census employer datasets including the Business Register (BR). The University of Michigan Health and Retirement Study (HRS) is a longitudinal panel study that surveys a representative sample of approximately 20,000 people in America, supported by the National Institute on Aging and the Social Security Administration.
This file contains only the crosswalk. The HRS data first must be requested directly from the Health and Retirement Study at the University of Michigan.
Note: This dataset is from a third party source. The project review timeframes above do not apply to applications that request access to confidential data assets commingled with data that are either not owned, or are only co-owned, by the statistical agency(s) or unit(s) and require approval from third parties not subject to this policy (e.g., state and local government agencies)
Detailed Methodology
The crosswalk uses the same sample as the Health and Retirement Survey.
For more information on the HRS methodology, see: https://hrs.isr.umich.edu/documentation/survey-design. The HRS data must be requested from the University of Michigan and requires approval from ICPSR and the IRS. The CenHRS project has developed the crosswalk using models based on (1) Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) and (2) employer name and address, as available. To incorporate uncertainty in the matching process, the crosswalk consists of 10 implicates per HRS respondent-year. The crosswalk consists of two files, one for firms and one for establishments.
