The National Household Education Survey, 2003 Adult Education for Work-Related Seasons (AEWR-NHES:2003) is a study that is part of the National Household Education Survey (NHES) program; program data are available since 1991 at https://nces.ed.gov/nhes/dataproducts.asp. AEWR-NHES:2003 (https://nces.ed.gov/nhes/) is a cross-sectional survey that collects data directly from households on educational issues. This study was conducted using an address based sample of self-administered questionnaires of households. Households in 2003 were sampled. The study’s response rate was 64.7 percent. Key statistics produced from AEWR-NHES:2003 are participation in adult and continuing education.

Summary of Differences

The public-use file contains all the variables detailed in the user's manual but does not contain certain variables excluded from the file for confidentiality reasons. These include the names of household members, verbatim string responses that that might identify persons, and respondents’ individual ZIP Codes. Some of these variables (e.g., verbatim strings of other-specify categories, ZIP Code) that are excluded from the public-use file are included on a separate restricted-use file.
